Hart's book is well rounded. Gear is not its prime focus. There is more emphasis on describing gear features, advantages, and rationale, reminiscent of Colin Fletcher, and less emphasis on comparisons of brands and models as in Chris Townsend's The Backpacker's Handbook.   This book is a must-have for trekking in the Rockies for all levels of experience. The light weight booklets make it very convenient to pack with you on the trial. The trail descriptions are very accurate and current. Time is too precious to waste when you are in the wilderness, don't waste your time and bring this book! Reviews:
